God October 6, 2008 Cantona..... what more do you need me to say. Not the highest production values on a dvd but it matters not a jot. For any true red or Cantona fan this dvd is a must have!!!
One third good is good enough December 15, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This boxed set is made up of three DVDs which have been made at different times and subsequently brought together in a collection.
The first - Eric the King - is a winner, and worth the price of the whole collection on its own. It was made in 1995 by Director Sophie Manham, who went on to make documentaries for television, and it is a 'proper' film. It is well constructed and directed, with excellent interviews - especially with Sir Alex Ferguson and Cantona himself. It tells the story of Cantona's move to Old Trafford and his first two glorious seasons. It is full of insight, with Cantona speaking eloquently about English football, himself and Manchester United. Although a little overlong at 90 minutes it is utterly compelling, and the football clips are superb - including footage that doesn't just relate to goals.
The second DVD is called Cantona Speaks and picks up the story. It covers his infamous kicking of a fan at Crystal Palace (though oddly for such a definitive collection it doesn't use a clip of the moment), his subsequent ban, and then his return the following season. This film is as poorly made as the first one is good, but the sheer amount of interview with Cantona, plus the football action and its relative brevity at 45 mins, make it ultimately worthwhile.
The third DVD - Au Revoir Cantona - is a shocker. It is a sloppily made canter through all the previous material, plus a little on his final season at the end. At 75 minutes it tests the patience of even a die hard Man U fan like me, and I would advise you to skip to the last 15 minutes, just to watch the action from the final season.
A mixed bag then, but the first DVD alone makes it a must-have not just for Cantona and United fans but for anyone who longs to hear a footballer able to articulate his love of the game.
Fantastic August 8, 2007 This really is an amazing collection. If, like me, you worshiped Eric when he was around you won't go wrong with this DVD set.
It includes the infamous kung-fu kick, the comeback penalty against Liverpool, the Seaguls follow ze trawler comment, the FA Cup final goal, interviews from other legends speaking about Cantona and all of the amazing goals that this great man has scored and setup. Quality DVD
Mind-blowing...with a touch of brillance January 14, 2007 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
DVD Description Cantona: The Complete Collection He arrived at Old Trafford in 1992 and inspired Manchester United to their first League title in 26 years. In his four and a half seasons United missed out on the title once.... when Eric was banned. At Wembley in May 1996 he scored the winning goal in the FA Cup Final which secured United an unprecedented double Double. Truly touched by genius, revered by Reds fans everywhere, Eric Cantona was the King.
This boxset includes three programmes on DVD for the first time which encapsulate Cantona, the man and the player, during his time at Manchester United.
With over three and half hours of Cantona action, this is a must have for all Manchester United fans!
Eric The King Relive the triumphs of Cantona's sparkling career
Cantona Speaks Eric tells his story in his own words Au Revoir Cantona The perfect way to say goodbye to a living legend Includes Tributes From: Alex Ferguson Martin Edwards George Best Tommy Docherty David Beckham Sir Bobby Charlton Normal Whiteside And many more Synopsis Three features. 'Cantona Speaks', 'Eric The King' and 'Au Revoir Cantona'
The only downside was the constant rplaying of the goals...but that is a small price to play for the brilliance of the KING!!! This dvd gives you goosebumps all over....any united fan would love this as a gift or simply a purchase on themselves!! no regrets whatsoever!!!
nice but it could be better October 8, 2005 8 out of 25 found this review helpful
As of big fan of Eric the King, when i get this DVD my expectations was hig but instead of 3 DVD'S people only can get last one. Each DVD repeated itself and normally you expect something different. All in all its ok, at least i got documentary about eric the king.
